Past and Future: The Collision of Yesterday and Tomorrow’s Promises

André Daus

Our past experiences shape who we are today, but they don’t determine our future. We’ve met many people who fear what’s ahead because of difficult past experiences.

Some folks feel anxious or even terrified about their futures. They haven’t realized they can shape their own destiny starting now.

A friend of ours played the lottery with the same numbers weekly for ten years. She feared stopping because—what if her numbers won the week after she quit? During this time, she won some money but lost even more.

The reality check: The odds of hitting the jackpot are approximately 1 in 140,000,000. That’s one in one hundred forty million! These odds remain exactly the same for each drawing. No one gets special treatment for having played longer.

The rules of probability don’t care about our past actions. Each lottery drawing is completely independent of previous ones.

We must:

  • Learn from past experiences
  • Shape our future through present actions
  • Accept that the past doesn’t control what comes next

Our actions in the present moment are what truly matter. We create our reality through current choices, not through dwelling on what was or fearing what might be.

Everything else is just an illusion we tell ourselves.
